I was happy to see that Zemanta was one of the first supported applications. On one hand, extensions are almost a guarantee of abuses and vulnerabilities--on the other, a browser these days is only as good as its plug-ins. Think about FireFox without GreaseMonkey.
Zemanta is a great application of the "semantic web." I truly enjoyed getting to meet the developers at SemTech. I don't use it alot, perhaps in part because I've fallen into FaceBook lately, but also because I really fell in love with Chrome, but LiveJornal, Chrome, and Zemanta were not playing nicely together until now.
In any event, perhaps you'll see some more substantive blog posting from me now.
A problem with Facebook is that I sometimes get this overwhelming urge to leave a snarky comment in response to a status update. And sarcasm just does not translate well in a text-based format. Actually, I could have ended that sentence after the word "well." But the desire to leave friendship-damaging comments visible to an unknown mass of strangers could easily be several minutes worth of a stand-up routine.
From looking at "Best of 2009" and "Best of the decade" lists, does anyone else get the feeling that rock music is dead? Ok, sure, music writers made that claim decades ago. But I'm thinking that no one showed up to claim Rock's cremated remains so they've just been sitting around forgotten in a file cabinet somewhere. I've heard it said that games like Rock Band are "saving" rock music. Go look at the Rock Band song list and name a single actual rock song published after 2000 (re-releases don't count) that you'd put on a playlist to give to someone special. I know I can't do it.
This is not a lament, just an observation; I'm quite content to persist on americana and world punk.
I sent an email to the recruiter for the Washington DC Furies, a women's rugby club. I met a player about a month and a half ago at a statistics course and she spoke very highly both of rugby and of the Furies. See, I'm generally uninspired to exercise on my own, but maybe if it was part of a team sport I might end up having too much fun to notice.
